Role-Playing Games Week Recap 1/31/2022
Sony responds with their own acquisition, Paramount+ drops Halo trailer, and new game releases for February.
Sony buys out Bungie
In response to Microsoft being a big spender, Sony came out and bought Bungie (the original makers of Halo) for a cool $3.6 billion. According to Bungie, this will not make their products become exclusive to Sony.
This is an interesting move here. Bungie is a big name but really they have a small portfolio to their name. This might be a talent acquisition more than a software acquisition. Only time will tell if this move is a smart move for Sony.
Halo trailer revealed for Paramount+ show
Paramount+ has been working on a live-action Halo show based on the video game franchise. The first trailer has dropped and it looks amazing.
This is huge. There have been so many talks of making the games into a movie or something to take it further and this looks great. Hopefully, they won’t stray too far from the game canon but it looks stunning at this point.
I am a little disappointed they didn’t get the original voice actor from the games. Maybe there is a reason for that but it would have been nice to see since a lot of other characters seem to be returning and his voice in the games is iconic.
